The founder of Earth Day, Gaylord Nelson once said, “The wealth of the nation is its air, water, soil, forests, minerals, rivers, lakes, oceans, scenic beauty, wildlife habitats, and biodiversity… that’s all there is. That’s the whole economy. That’s where all the economic activity and jobs come from. These biological systems are the sustaining wealth of the world.”
To spread the awareness of how we are dependent on nature, the team at Corporate Electric celebrated 22nd April 2019 – Earth Day with a cleanup drive following the footsteps of its previous year.
Earth Day is an annual celebration that witnesses millions of people across the world standing up in unison to promote sustainability and environmental awareness through volunteerism and events. Capitalizing on this perfect occasion, we, along with our team, planned on liberating the Cayman Islands from toxic waste one area at a time.
This year, we aimed to clean North Sound Road by Caterpillar drive, located near our office in Cayman. Our team of licensed experts was exhilarated and looked forward to making a significant difference by doing their bit. Our congregation at North Sound Road comprised of 17 people, an incredible increase in comparison to 5 people who participated last year, which was a source of pride for us and helped us realize the growing impact of our drive.
In tandem with the families and children who joined us in cleaning, we collected 12-15 bags of garbage, 3-4 bags of recyclables, and many car tires and parts. It presented a fitting opportunity not only to give it back to the community but also to build knowledge about environmental sustainability and inspire action. We educated those present on the importance of not littering and emphasized the point to urge others to do the same. Moreover, the passers-by and cars gave encouraging honks to support our initiative and appreciate the hard work put in by our team.
As a leading electrical contractor in the Cayman Islands, we see it as a part of our responsibility to promote sustainable solutions, give it back to the local community, and encourage younger generations to participate. We thank all the individuals who stepped up to make our Earth Day cleanup 2019 a success and look forward to organizing many more such events that will help make the earth a better place,” says the founder of Corporate Electric.
